Hello Everyone!
I'm glad you've logged onto my blog to check on the Pelikans and all that's been going on in our lives lately.
Jesse, Elina, Misha, Elijah, Gami & Grandpa caravaned across the country together and arrived on Sunday evening, January 20th. The Jesse Pelikan family has settled in nicely with Rondi and Karis, where they will be living for the next few months. There is a lovely house very near us that is coming availiable to rent this summer, so Jesse and Elina are holding out for that one to be their new home. Gami & Grandpa stayed with us for the first week, while they sorted through their household goods, mail, bought food, etc. and then moved into their new home a few miles from us all. They even watched Sherman, Libby and Yuki for us while the entire gaggle of Pelikans (minus Johnny, sadly) made our way down to Florida for "Papa's" Ordination. We were joined by Jim, Tina and Matt Cuthbertson, as well as Archbishop Doug, Pam and Mary Elizabeth Woodall.
Fr Nicholas, our priest from All Saint's Orthodox Church in Raliegh, is wonderful and he took very good care of (the now) Fr. Philip. He is a gentle and wise man, and we love him and Kh. Barbara dearly.
Below is my entry from yesterday - a slide show of the ordination! I have even figured out how to have music playing while you peruse. (or with just a click you can turn it off)

Dear Father Philip (and family)-
ReplyDeleteI guess you could say - The “Pelikan” has landed! You and your family are safe in the Orthodox Faith and we rejoice with and give thanks for you and your whole family. We have not ceased praying for you all ever since learning about you from Fr. Peter Gillquist . Axios indeed! May God grant you & yours many years!
Fr. John Denny Roland, Pastor
Sts. Peter & Paul Orthodox Church
Hot Springs, AR
Dear Khouria Mimi, Congratulations on this momentous occassion in your and Father's lives - Axios!
ReplyDeleteI don't know quite how to say this, so I'll just say it. I think the photos of Father Philip's ordination are beautiful. Thank you for sharing them! I find it inappropriate and irreverent, however, to display an Orthodox ordination to the priesthood with rock and roll music playing in the background and next to an article about how to dremel dog nails. Please forgive me, but displaying Father's big day in this manner really ditracts from the dignity and sanctity of this momentous event.
Dear Anonymous,
ReplyDeleteGood advice ... I've made a few changes and hope you understand that this is a "personal" blog that I've had for many years. I have scores of friends that read it regularly who enjoy the thoughtful and practical articles that I post.
This is not meant as an official Orthodox blog, just family happenings, personal thoughts, favorite music, etc. And since Fr. Philip's Ordination was a "family happening" as well as a sacred Church event, that's why I posted the pictures. Many of my dear friends that read this blog are Japanese, and appreciate the "American" flavor of the articles, links and the sound of the American music. So, please forgive us and give us time as we adjust to a completely new culture having never lived in the Southeast and having spent the last 10 years in Japan.
I hope the arrangement of the blog works better now.
Blessings,
Kh. Tamera
